Our 300µm flame retardant, construction grade film, patch tape and shrink wrap gun are used by Jason & Pollyanna as they prepare to be doused with water and blown away by an industrial fan simulating the great British weather conditions.

Tufcoat were approached by Conservators from Canterbury Cathedral to provide a solution whilst they removed stained glass from the 12th century South Oculus Window in the south-east transept.

The provided solution used Tufcoat 300µm flame retardant  film to encapsulate the working area outside the Cathedral to ensure the safe removal of the glass and ensure a clean environment whilst the restoration work underwent completion.

Tufcoat scaffold shrink wrap is a ‘drum tight’ scaffold sheeting, designed to stay fixed and create the most effective containment and weather protection available. The Evaporator D project is the biggest nuclear project currently being undertaken in the UK and is designed to maintain Sellafield’s ability to process spent nuclear fuel by providing evaporator capacity to evaporate water from High Active Raffinate and effluent from the Waste Vitrification Plant. When the plant is operational the volume of waste will be reduced by a factor of 20.

An innovative off-site construction techniques is being employed to build the plant as a series of large modules which are too big for transport by road or rail.

Due to the large amount of stainless steel employed in the manufacturing of the modules it was essential that there was no salt water ingress during storage, barge transport and unloading at Sellafield. Working in partnership with Interserve and Costain, Tufcoat’s team spent 14 days shrink wrapping the modules, employing a number of specialist techniques to ensure that the modules remained 100% encapsulated during all weather conditions, including high winds.

This was a challenging project since the scaffolding required shrink wrapping both on the external face and on the internal face adjacent to the building. This created a completely encasulated environment in order for shot blasting to be undertaken with minimum disruption due to dust and noise to the office workers within.

The work was undertaken using Tufcoat 300 micron, flame retardant shrink wrap film for scaffold wrapping.

Now that the A380 has completed its test program, with production aircraft delivered to airlines and carrying passengers around the world, the test aircraft are now being put into storage before being refurbished and found a new home.

Airbus recently approached Tufcoat to request some help with protecting the sensitive wing parts and allowing the aircraft to be stored outside for up to two years.  With just 10 days notice, Tufcoat had to come up with a plan of action, including fixing travel plans, supplying all the materials and equipment necessary to the A380 Final Assembly Line in Toulouse, and drawing together a team of installers – Tufcoat usually only supplies the materials and equipment, also carrying out training for new customers.

The team was made up of installers from Tufcoat customers: Plaswrap, Shrinkex and Wrapstar and a project manager from Tufcoat, bringing together shrinkwrapping expertise from a wide variety of industries and product areas, including Aerospace, Construction, Defence and Marine.

At its lowest point, the wing was around two storeys high, so a variety of access equipment was required to ensure a safe, yet effective working environment.  Each wing is 11m wide at the inboard end tapering to around 3m, is around 45m long and took two days to shrinkwrap.  During the course of the project, Tufcoat was approached by the team responsible for the horizontal tail section (‘the HTP’) and asked to also shrinkwrap these!
